U.S. NAVY MONUMENT
A Monument full of symbols, The American sculptor Steven Spears created a statue with three symbols : the leadership, the marines,and the fighting units (beach battalions, in charge of cleaning the beaches), all three united in aiming at the same goal. This 4,50 m high statue will be located on a base in the shape of a pentagon, each of its five faces recalling each of the five Landing beaches. The name of all the ships that took part to Overlord will be engraved : in order that the families of the veterans, their children can touch the name of the ship on which their father or grand-father was".
It was place facing the sea in the middle of a honor courtyard, near the federal monument and should be the only one in the world dedicated to the US Navy. The inauguration was on september 27, 08.
The model of the US Navy monument offered by the American naval order was officialy showed on Monday 9th of october 2006 at the Utah Beach Museum.
